“AI agent” is one of the most talked-about phrases in technology right now. It appears in articles, software launches and marketing campaigns, but for many businesses the term still feels vague. Is it just another chatbot? Is it something only large companies use? And most importantly, is it actually useful?

What is an AI Agent?

In simple terms, an AI agent is a system that can make decisions and take actions to achieve a goal, often with limited human input. Unlike basic AI tools that simply respond to prompts, an AI agent can operate with a level of autonomy, following rules, learning from inputs, and carrying out tasks on your behalf.

It’s helpful to understand the difference. If you open ChatGPT and ask it to write an email, that’s an AI tool responding to your request. You are still directing every step. Technology should support a clear business objective, not create unnecessary complexity. The key question is not “Should we use AI?” but “What problem are we trying to solve?”
