Hello Tidy Blog readers, just a quick post to say a BIG “thank you” to all our amazing clients, old and new! Many thanks for your recommendations, website updates, graphic design, logo designs and SEO work in recent months.

The first quarter of 2012 has been pretty manic for Tidy Design and we are very fortunate to be witnessing growth as a business during tough economic times… That said, its not been easy! Sadly Ben Holland AKA Slidorion.com, a very talented coder who had been with us for 6 months recently moved on to pastures new, not the best news, but hats off to him! Ben has done some truly awesome work and he will be missed… However, we will keep in touch.

All in all the Tidy team has put in some serious man-hours this quarter, going to extreme lengths to deliver quality SEO results and meet website deadlines… On Ben’s last day we didn’t clock off until 8pm (sorry about that Ben!), it was all hands on deck that evening launching X15 new websites! Yes, I did just say X15!

Jordan and Jason have also been working very hard, helping us with several new projects, SEO campaigns and assisting in client updates / support. It has been interesting to say the least, adapting to parenthood (occasional sleep deprivation) and making sure the day to day running of Tidy Design goes smoothly.

The crazy thing about being self-employed or being in business is this; when you are busy (I mean crazy busy, working seven day weeks) you want it to be quieter, but as soon as it’s quiet you panic and want it to be busy again! After a record-breaking quarter, I am now in a “want it to be quieter” frame of mind for April 2012, however I’m sure this will change after Easter!

Although our core business is web design and SEO I do spend some evenings and weekends working on personal projects, one of these being Montgomery Moon, a children’s storybook that this month was approved by Apple as an iPad book for kids… Yippee!!!

When Rosie (my wife and partner in the business) fell pregnant last year with our first, the knitting needles came out… It was at this point when I thought I should also do something for our baby boy, maybe build something he can keep and show his children… Anyway, Montgomery Moon was crafted in the summer of 2011, the spec to write and illustrate a kid’s book for him to enjoy.

With Tidy Design being primarily a service-based business, I’ve wanted for some time now to focus more on developing sellable products. I believe a mix of both services and products is better than one or the other; I also really enjoy creating new brands / products such as this iPad book for kids… Its what I enjoy, so helping others to do this through our core business Tidy Design makes my day job pretty awesome!

As a business we are lucky to have the tools, creativity and knowledge to create new products and take them to market… Ok, we also work very hard at this! This year I aim to write and illustrate another two Montgomery Moon books; this totaling three iPad books for kids in the App Store ready for Christmas 2012.

So, how will this new venture pan out, lots of people write kids books and develop amazing apps, can Montgomery Moon really compete? To be honest I am not sure, feedback so far from family and friends has been amazing so I am pretty excited to see how my iPad book for kids sells in the App Store… The thing to remember here is why I wrote the book, it was not for sales, merchandising contracts or to reach a million downloads in the App Store… This story is for my boy, and writing / illustrating books for kids will be great fun!

Today I entered “Free Caution Tape Image’ and “Free Caution Tape graphic” into Google as I needed something for a new website we are developing. For small on-site design features such as this I don’t really want to buy stock images… So, with no cool free caution tape images in Google’s organic SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) I cracked open Photoshop to make my own!
