Making your website easier to navigate

5th August, 2010

The navigation of your website is very important because it helps visitors locate content. A good navigation can also help search engines understand and locate content you thinks is important. All websites have a home page and this is usually the most visited page on a site, with this in mind it is a great place to promote services / products you have to offer.

<div>
<a href=”../index.html” title=”Home Page”>Home</a> &gt;
<a href=”index.html” title=”Plumbing Services”>Plumbing Services</a> &gt;
<strong>Refurbishments</strong>
</div>

A breadcrumb is a row of internal links at the top / bottom of a webpage that allow visitors to quickly navigate back.

You must remember to make it as easy as possible for users to navigate from general content to more specific content on your site. Avoid going crazy by linking every page to every other page! If you do have hundreds of pages then why not create an HTML and XML sitemap to help ensure visitors / search engines discover pages on your site.
